14 AUGUST 2015 – Los Angeles and Johannesburg-based trade event organizer BASIC LEAD announces an expanded DISCOPRO pitching, training and matchmaking program, developed in response to increased demand amongst producers driving Africa’s booming independent television content production sectors.

Offered in parallel to DISCOP AFRICA, which is held twice a year, the DISCOPRO program is a live opportunity for independent producers to pitch, learn and meet with buyers, sales agents, financiers and sponsors within the dynamic context of Africa’s leading multiplatform TV content market and coproduction forum, next taking place from 4th to 6th November in Johannesburg.

“Launched four years ago, the DISCOPRO program has grown to become a pan-African business accelerator effectively helping established and up-and-coming producers market ideas, broaden knowledge and connect with potential investors,” commented Patrick ZUCHOWICKI, General Manager of Basic Lead, who added, “The program offers a unique opportunity to get projects financed and to rub shoulders with established production, commissioning, distribution and advertising executives with the power to affect viewing and purchase decisions in Africa’s booming television ecosystem.” The 2015 agenda will put a special emphasis on strengthening relationships between Kenya and South Africa with the aim of reviving the current coproduction MOU between the two countries.

The DISCOPRO schedule will consist of a meticulously curated training program featuring thirty-six, hands-on, small group formative workshops designed to navigate the difficult process of content development, content funding and content monetization. All workshops will be moderated by experts and geared towards strategies for creating and financing content, aligning interests with potential coproduction partners, and identifying viable local, regional and international distribution options.

The program will also include six fast-paced pitching competitions to take place on the first day of DISCOP AFRICA in front of a panel of industry key players seeking fresh talent and innovative ideas “Made In Africa”. Each of these competitions will spotlight popular genres offered at the three-day industry gathering, including TV series, Documentaries, Formats, Animation, Comedy content and Web series.

In addition, matchmaking sessions centered on projects seeking funding and international distribution will be specifically planned for independent producers who will benefit from the organizers’ assistance in identifying potential partners. With twice as many independent producers expected to attend this year’s program, the organizers have also decided to join forces with MEDIA PROS AFRICA, a Nairobi-based consultancy monitoring Africa’s multiplatform content production and distribution industries, to reinforce and strengthen its twice-yearly DISCOPRO pitching, training and matchmaking agenda taking place in Abidjan and Johannesburg.

“With the transition to digital broadcasting, it is an exciting time for content development in Africa and we are thrilled to be working on the DISCOPRO program to provide industry stakeholders with a platform to engage,” said Wangeci MURAGE, Managing Partner at Media Pros Africa, who added “Content developers and distribution platforms in Africa are seeking new ways to deliver programming to their growing audiences and the DISCOPRO training and pitching forums will explore myriad opportunities that the industry can tap into.” 1,500+ delegates and 250+ exhibiting companies from 90+ countries are expected to attend DISCOP AFRICA representing key broadcasters, pay-tv platforms, mobile networks, online operators, producers, distributors, advertisers, influencers and investors driving multiplatform television business across Africa.
