DISCOP continues to provide the platform for the development Africa’s future content producers. DISCOP’s pitching competitions, the most recent in Abidjan in June 2016 and upcoming in Johannesburg in November 2016, have become known across Africa as the “must-attend” event for independent producers looking to generate funding for projects as well as for mentoring and networking.
The DISCOP pitching competitions are a vital element of the markets that now take place annually in Abidjan and Johannesburg, with the next edition scheduled for Johannesburg from November 2nd – 4th.
DISCOP runs and promotes these pitching competitions as a platform to develop young talent and to support them in securing the necessary funding and distribution support to bring these projects to fruition.
At the DISCOP Africa Abidjan pitching competition that took place in June, four projects received unanimous support from the judges and have set the bar very high ahead of the DISCOP Johannesburg pitching competition taking place on November 3rd 2016.
Within the categories of ANIMATION, DOCUMENTARY, and TV SERIES these pitches stood out for their originality and professionalism. These young producers from Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gabon and Senegal are the future of television on the continent with their fresh approach to telling enthralling stories that are “made in Africa.”
The four winning projects are as diverse as they are fascinating: discover 4 Amazon warriors whose tough mission is to protect the people of Africa against a rich tyrant; follow the dangerous motorbike journey through Cameroon and Nigeria of two Central Africans; enter the world of Dowé, the first African super hero, and dive into the daily life of ‘microbes,’ street children who attack the population in roving bands in Abidjan.
